SUPERNATURAL l has had the amazing opportunity to be featured two years in a row in Elle Decoration’s Spring Issues. This year was a super special occasion because we got to collaborate with the luminous Michael Chandler of Chandler House on a faux ‘window display’.
One thing Michael and I certainly have in common is a love for the history of art with both of us having studied it, so it was a no-brainer that we would gravitate toward something in that field. The chosen subject… Henri Matisse.Dark rich colours set off by pops of bright tones, patterns on patterns on patterns and bold textures made for a luxurious feel. Little symbols such as the little white pigeons (can you spot them?) and the fresh delicious monster cut-out ‘wallpaper’ made further reference to our hero, Matisse.
Such a fun day was had! Thank you to Elle Deco for allowing us the opportunity to mush our brains together.
My dad Norman Frost sells vintage and classic sports cars at his showroom in Knysna called Frost Brothers. Having learnt to drive in a two-tone Riley 1.5, I fear I never really had a choice but to have a passion for cars- especially those from a bygone era. So many of my childhood memories have to do with cars- one of the best being a drive out to The Cragg’s in my mom’s incredible powder blue 1958 Mercedes 220S Ponton Convertible with her looking like an absolute siren from the 40′s.
Needless to say- giving a Mercedes SLK a Spring makeover for MB Life was a dream job. Creative freedom and a combination of passions! A big thank you to Nadine Theron from MB Life for making it possible and to Michael Ellis for doing such an amazing job at editing a four hour long process and making my first ever taped interview look bearable! In just over two weeks it has received over 30 000 views! SHY? EXCITED? I’m not sure…
Those who know me, know that I am the shy florist type- not even comfortable in a group photo. But then there’s a side of me that cannot resist a challenge, and whilst setting up the flowers for Expresso’s Spring Day Celebration on Sunday afternoon, producer Paul Van Deventer presented me with just that. I suddenly found myself agreeing to appear briefly on live television! Needless to say a sleepless night ensued, followed by 3:30am wake up call. Nerves were eating me up and after finishing set up I had two hours to kill backstage before my brief appearance. THE LONGEST TWO HOURS OF MY LIFE. I take my hat off to all the staff at The Expresso Team- I have never seen so much energy at 5am. The dancefloor at EVOL pales in comparison! They are there before the crack of dawn every day with new people and new content and they manage it all so well!
Heart pounding I eventually made it to the D.I.Y room where Elana Afrika and Matanna Katz were waiting. Still managing to look pale under 3cm of television make-up, Elana grabbed my arm and calmed me down by instructing me to do weird facial exercises- helping me to take my mind off it all. Before I knew it, the cameras were rolling! It all felt so surreal. I felt so dumb… So dumb I blanked on the name of a savoy cabbage! But all in all, I think it went okay : )
On a side note- one of the most amazing parts of this job was that the Expresso team organised free flowers from Woolworths, and the rest I could forage from… BABYLONSTOREN! Never mind a florist’s dream come true- I think anyone would give their left arm for this opportunity. Guided around the garden by the lovely Gundula, my friend David and I had a wheelbarrow which we could fill to our hearts content! Nibbling here and there at the most delicious carrots and snap peas, we also stopped at the conservatory for a kumquat tart and tea break. What a treat! OH! And did I mention that we got to hold a tiny African hedgehog and it’s newborn babies!
Thank you Expresso for this incredible opportunity, Babylonstoren and Woolies for being so generous, and all my friends and family for your overwhelming support! xxx

SUPERNATURAL had the amazing opportunity to be involved with Craig Port’s Spring/ Summer collection for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2014. A big thank you to Megan Mitchell from Girl About Town PR for thinking of us! What a rush it was being backstage with all the designers and models and ridiculously fabulous people. With wedding season slowly creeping in- making twenty one head garlands sure was a great way to get back into ‘shape’ : )
Finally! Here’s a look at a our full 2014 Lookbook with photographer Alix-Rose Cowie and stylist Kate Desmarais, part of which was featured in the latest VISI, on shelves now. VISI contacted us earlier this year to use images from our 2013 collaboration but we decided to rather create something fresh for the magazine and for our personal portfolios! Well, here it is! Inspired by an Autumn/ Winter palette, we created six different looks, each very different to the other. We hope you like them!
Here are some behind the scenes shots while we are at it!
Photographer: Alix-Rose Cowie
Stylist: Kate Desmarais

Robyn and Fredrik’s wedding was held on the 11th of January 2014. It was our first wedding of the new year, our first international couple as well as our first wedding with the highly esteemed team behind Wedding Concepts and in particular wedding co-ordinator extraordinaire, Kim Werner- it was bound to be a special one!
The wedding was held at Grand Dédale Country House which is certainly one of the snazziest venues we have ever had the pleasure of working at. Just outside of Wellington, one takes a gravel road through vineyards, past old Cape Dutch homes to enter the gates of Grand Dédale. You are greeted by fields of agapanthus and paddocks of horses- quite a sight to behold! How lucky we were that the incredibly talented and equally lovely Tasha Seccombe was on hand to capture this wonderful summers evening.
The bride, Robyn, from Japan and her husband-to-be from Norway. Fredrik had proposed to Robyn in South Africa so it was only fitting that they returned with their nearest and dearest to get married. A small and intimate guest count of only 19! Traditional and timeless was the overall look of the day. Robyn wanted to walk down a carpet of rose petals which we scattered in a romantic swirling pattern down the aisle. We created fresh floral tiebacks on the gazebo curtains which created a beautiful backdrop to the couples vows. To each gold chair we tied an individual material bag (expertly sewn by Jess) of white rose petal confetti which the guests showered the couple with after saying their ‘I-do’s’.
After cocktails and canapes round the sparkling pool the guests sat at one long table on the veranda under a draping of glistening fairy lights. The pastel green table cloth a perfect compliment to the gold tiffany chairs. The table decor included glass candlesticks of varying heights as well as short votives with a gold detail. Clear, cut glass and gold leafed vases were enhanced with the odd vintage gold goblet we hired form our lovely friends at Aspen Flowers and Co. A variety of soft and delicate blooms created a romantic and sweet smelling centre piece down the middle of the table; dendrobium orchids, lace flowers, chincherees, hydrangeas, calla lilies, dahlias, galidiolus, white carnations and, of course, a multitude of locally grown garden and imported roses.
We absolutely loved doing this wedding! Not only working with such an organised and professional co-ordination team, an incredible photographer, and gorgeous venue but also having the opportunity to provide flowers to a really lovely and relaxed couple just happy to be in South Africa sharing their special day with those closest to them. We wish Robyn and Fredrik a truly happy like together, with many a visit to Cape Town in the future!

This one was certainly a special one for SUPERNATURAL. Kerry was the first bride ever to contact us in January 2013. So it seemed fitting we ended our first year of business with her and Miguel’s lovely wedding at Nantes Estate in Paarl. Leanne Evan’s from Picturess Photography captured these lovely shots. What a treat to have been involved in a wedding with such a fun and vibrant colour scheme; deep purples, lime greens, burnt oranges, cerise pinks and white. Kerry had one request- that phalaenopsis orchids be included in the reception floral design which we combined with other blooms like calla lillies, gladioli, anthuriums, esclepias, hydrangeas, celosia and a multitude of brightly coloured roses. With silver, clear and purple glass the decor had contemporary but eclectic feel about it.
As complete rookies, trying to make our floral dreams come alive, we owe a great deal to those first few brides who put their weddings in our hands and spent little time worrying about and questioning whether we could actually get the job done. There’s nothing that fuels a florist’s enthusiasm quite like a bride who trusts completely. Kerry was the epitome of the perfect client; completely trusting, efficient and relaxed (though we’ve been told this may have just been limited to her relationship with us). She even recommended us to her lovely sister Stacey who marries her love James in February this year!
It was an absolute pleasure to be involved in her and Miguel’s special day and we wish you both the most amazingly happy life together. You’ll always be pretty special to SUPERNATURAL x
